Boy & Bear
- Christchurch Town Hall
- Saturday 11 May 2024
This May the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra bring together two masterpieces composed 100 years apart at Lamb & Hayward Masterworks: Ives, Beethoven - conducted by CSO Chief Conductor Benjamin Northey and featuring Violinist Amalia Hall.
The musical pairing of works old and new will celebrate both European and American musical traditions. Beethoven's Violin Concerto (1806), one of the most famous violin concertos ever written, and Beethoven's only major work for solo violin and orchestra, will be performed by Aotearoa New Zealand's dazzling Amalia Hall. Then we move to a century later New York to discover Ives's Symphony No. 2 (1901), a melodic, tuneful, and lyrical work that borrows a lot of American musical styles, which you may recognise throughout, from hymn tunes to marches to popular songs. This Symphony would take Ives 12 years to complete and will be a great discovery for many.
We look forward to sharing it with you. Tickets from $25.
